It’s been a little over a week since the basketball world was rocked by the news of 18 year old Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, suffering from cardiac arrest and being taken away via ambulance during a practice session.

Photographs recently surfaced of Bronny and his family dining at a ritzy Italian restaurant in Santa Monica last Friday night. The very next day, LeBron shared a video on his Instagram page of Bronny playing the piano in light spirits.

What happened?

On Monday, July 24th, Bronny suffered cardiac arrest while practicing at the USC basketball campus. Although initially unconscious, he was awake by the time paramedics arrived and transported him to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment. He was released on Thursday, July 27th.

Multiple reports surfaced at the time of the incident, as well as the (heavily redacted) 911 call published by TMZ. The recording is just under a minute and doesn’t reveal much information, like Bronny’s identity nor his medical condition.

The incident sent ripples of concern through the sports community, as fans and well-wishers worldwide held their breath in collective worry for the talented teenager’s health and well-being.

Cedars-Sinai released a statement regarding Bronny’s treatment and gave thanks to the medical staff for their swift action:

Thanks to the swift and effective response by the USC athletics’ medical staff, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest. He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable. Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting. Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.

Although Bronny seems to be doing well, doctors are still trying to determine the cause of his health issue.
